I am still only looking at the posts on the list because I still have not done anything to be able to post TO the list because of my ISP .. Comcast. My life has just been too busy lately.
It may have been me that talked about a belt that I wear around my abdomen but it is also wrapped around the entire chair to give me in a little extra bit of confidence if I bend over or what ever. It is only a long strap from material found at a tent store or a huge material/fabric warehouse. It closes in the front by having Velcro about 6 inches on both ends for them to overlap and close.
As far as driving with it... I would not put my trust in Velcro to help all that much but it 'can' be pretty secure or add a little extra security if that is what you're looking for.
I was fortunate to have a nurse of mine in New York State make them for me. She sent me some in the mail about a year ago because I ran out but, for some odd reason, they did not hold up and were poorly made.
Fortunately, a lady that I know nearby was able to look at several fabric stores around Tucson, find the exact strong material, attach the Velcro, and cut the length that I need. She just made two of them for me about two months ago. It involves some sewing I believe. I think the length of my straps are round 6 foot and they are about 3 inches wide.
They also help me breathe better by pulling in my diaphragm muscles a little tighter even though I wear and abdominal binder to do just that.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Retracting support belt
Hi all, Some time ago someone mentioned a type of support belt that they use----it may have been for driving. They said it would let you bend over to do a pressure relief or whatever then it would retract or go back in as you set upright again and kind of support you or hold you up in sitting position??? ( I am looking for something like that to kinda help support or help hold me up while I type or eat and etc. ) If anyone knows or has an idea could you let me know? My left arm and shoulder is giving out because I use it so much to hold me upright while I type. Thanks in advance if anyone knows a site or has info on where I can buy one. Dan*
