Hi Bobbie,
You're really lucky to have so many other quadriplegic friends that are
close by that you can actually talk to face to face
. That would be wonderful. I don't know any in my city. I only know one
person that is a friend of my best friend that I have only met one time that
is a wealth of information he knows everything about disabilities. The HUD
organization did not even know that. I know of some other quadriplegics but
I'd ever have been able to meet them as they don't live in my vicinity. I
really ran into any one that is quadriplegic, although I do see other people
in
wheelchairs.
He is a person told me I could transfer my voucher from Lawrence to Prairie
village when I was moving here because Lawrence did not have an agency that
could be do my care, because I had a trach after a pneumonia. I moved here in
88 and the governor decreased the funding for the programs a little over a
year later. Self-directed care started in 90 and Lawrence was one of the
first centers in the state, which is where I still get my care. I knew a
number
of other quadriplegics in Lawrence, because it was so much smaller. The
independent living center had a vehicle that could take you to doctors and so
forth, so you would need others in the wheelchair van and sometimes at the
independent living center if you had to go there for some reason.
Why I love a quad list, so much! There is always somebody that can help you
with the question you have.
