Information I received from the know-brainer. I thought this would be
excellent information to share. I don't know that I quite understand
everything
in it because I am so computer illiterate. I don't know what to do about my
Hewlett-Packard computer laptop that my brother has already purchased. I
don't know that he can take it back as I think it has been too long. It was
purchased at Christmas.

Does anybody have any suggests? I of course do not have the specifications
of the computer. I know that would really help. All I know is that it is
Vista with 1 mg of RAM. I'm not sure if it is 32 or 64. I don't think I can
find it on the Sam's web site.

I think you for any suggestions. I will include the specifications as it is
I find out what they are.

Dana

Unfortunately major manufacturers like Compaq, HP, Dell, IBM etc. cram lots of
proprietary hardware and software into their computers which makes them a bit
less usable from a customer point of view but there isn't much you can do about
this when purchasing from major companies. That's why I purchased my computers
from boutique companies such as Clone Computer (972) 934-2200 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Should you decide to purchase from Clone Computer you will want to ask for the
KnowBrainer spec they'll computers so that they will understand your speech
recognition needs.

Although I am running Windows Vista, my preference would be to run Windows XP
on your computer and the 32-bit version. You cannot install or use
NaturallySpeaking on a Vista 64-bit operating system. When you purchase your
NaturallySpeaking Pro 9.5 Upgrade
<https://www.knowbrainer.com/storefront/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1>
from our company we include a full backup copy DVD Ver. 9.5 so that you can
install a full copy. NaturallySpeaking 9.0 is a smart upgrade and won’t even
install unless you have a previous version of NaturallySpeaking installed which
is a Catch-22 for anyone using Vista. We eliminate that problem by giving you
a full backup copy 9.5 DVD. We are also selling the upgrades at our cost which
is $290. The KnowBrainer upgrade is $75.

It would probably be a lot easier for you to take your computer back to Sam's
Club rather than attempt to reformat it because it is a very high probability
that your computer has proprietary hardware and software which means that it
will only work with the installation DVD that came with it. This is a major
problem with over-the-counter computers.

This is why I go with Clone Computer for all my systems which meet my
standards. They even have copies of NaturallySpeaking to preinstall on your
computer and they are very reasonably priced but here's what you basically need
(should you wish to shop elsewhere): My first recommendation for an operating
system would be Windows XP but Windows 32-bit Vista will also work. You should
get 3 Gb of RAM for Windows Vista or 2 Gb of RAM for Windows XP. You should
ONLY get an Intel chip with as fast a processor as affordable. Any core 2 duo
will work fine. You probably don't have to worry about what kind of soundcard
is in the machine because they're all integrated and substandard but this will
NOT be a problem because you already own a decent soundcard microphone.

Since you are using NaturallySpeaking Ver. 8 and KnowBrainer I'm assuming that
you're using NaturallySpeaking professional but I couldn't check our database
because I only have your first name to go on. You can also reach us by phone
From 9 to 4 CST.

I have several questions:

What are the specifications for a computer that can run Dragon 9.5 and
know-brainer?

I am using Dragon 8 and knowbrainer on two of my computers.

I have a new laptop with Vista but I'm not sure about the RAM or kind of
laptop, I think it is the 64. My friend, Roy Graham bought me Dragon 8 and
knowbrainer several years ago is trying to help me figure out what I need to
get and what the exact cost of each will be. He thinks that I need 32 bit to
run. He says I need to buy a Dragon 9 and get a patch for 9.5 and I'm not sure
which. I am quite confused. I'm not sure if I can take my laptop back to
Sam's Club as I believe it is 64, it has never been opened. My brother thought
he had the right computer but I want to find out exactly what I need, what kind
of computer? Which Dragon and which knowbrainer. Will be the price of the
Dragon and the knowbrainer?

My disability as C4-5 and I need hands-free.

I hope you can help me with these questions if I haven't been too confusing.

Gratefully yours,

Dana

What are the hours you can be reached, so I can tell my brother? I thought he
was going to try to order this week or planned to.
