I live in Missori and went through the whole Voc Rehab process. They tell me spinal cord injury victims are a bad risk for them to pay for anything because very few actually attain gainful employment. In the instances they will pay for anything you must pass their mental eval test, let them insult you......then they tell you the whole line that they are not about transportation, recreation or anything else......Their sole purpose is to get persons injured back to work....the more people they get back to work , with the least amount of money is the game they play. Sure their is an exception to every rule, and their are quads that walk, but thats the system. I found a way around Voc Rehab........I made sure I was broke...hint, hint, then applied for a pell grant....then the state pays and you can take as many or as few classes you want with nobody insulting or pressuring you. I saved some money and bought my own van that I have been driving for over 4 years. Ron, As Wheel said, every state is different. I've learned from my daughter, Michelle who works for Voc Rehab is that they help all disabilities including the blind and mental disabilities. I think it is true...yes, the name of the game is to get one gainfully employed or to college if we so wish. I wouldn't because of my constant pain & the meds I have to take so I won't spasm out of my chair. (I don't think anyone would want my state of confusion. :-) ) When I was injured in 1990 they set up our salvage yard with $6,000 dollars of computers. It was so expensive because of the software. I could check our inventory and check which parts interchanged with what instead of using manuals & without going outside. They also set me up with headsets for the phone. So, I would have to say, they were a big help to us. Dianna ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
