I have a Hill-Rom Silk-aire Mattress. It is a low air loss mattress and it healed a stage 3 wound in six weeks without rolling. My wound doctor didn't believe a mattress could make a big difference, so I went to my GP and stopped seeing my wound doctor. (did not believe the results of 3 univewrsity studies). After telling my wound doctor that Iu could not lay on my hips, he had his nurses put me on my left side for a good twenty minutes. Noit oinly wasa I a shaking puddle of sweat but my blood preasure was 310 over 176. It still did not discourage his belief that flap surgery was the best way to go. Once again, I feel it is important to remind everyone that a doctor can graduate dead last in his class and still be called "Doctor". Alternating preasure overlays can be helpful, but my experience has shown me the low air loss is far more effective at actually healing wounds. Alternating preasure has proven useful in preventing wounds that originate in beds. My sores are usually a result of my deforming pelvis and hips combined with 10 hour days in the wheelchair. The area where my skin folds below my right buttocks is easily torn and I'm certain would be worse without the silly utter balm used on it between skin rips.
Wishing you all the best, john ________________________________ From: Steve Oldaker <[email protected]> To: [email protected]; Merrill Burghardt <[email protected]>; [email protected] Sent: Saturday, March 28, 2009 4:23:33 PM Subject: RE: [QUAD-L] air mattres Hi Paul and Merrill, Which make and model do you use? There appears to be many options and price ranges.
