Last yr. we quit with the leg bags when our nurse said that at the nursing home they hang bed bags under the wheel chair. They don't wash them, just change them every 6 - 8 wks. My husband always wears sweat pants, so I run the tube up the leg of his pants when I put them on him in the morning. When we go away from home, I have a navy blue bag that I cover the bed bag with & hang it on a little ring under the chair. It isn't noticable that way. When we used the leg bag, I always forgot to empty it & it would look like a balloon when I'd remember! At home I leave the cover off so I can keep a closer eye on the color, etc. of his urine & we also remember to empty it more often. With 8 children at home & Grandma (with Alzheimer's) in the nursing home nearby and I am responsible for everyone, I don't remember something that's out of sight! The Curity Kendall 2,000ml overnight bags are working well for us. My husband has a superpubic & has had 2 UTI's in the 14 months since his accident. Rehab had us use leg bags during the day & bed bags at night, cleaning with bleach water morning & evening. I just couldn't keep up with all the routines they thought we needed for my husband's care. During the past yr., I keep cutting corners when I can to fit everything into one day. Thankyou to everyone who has answered my questions in the past months - I'm still trying to learn as much as I can about how to better care for my husband. [email protected]
