Shirley, The person has to have a Dr's order to keep you in a nursing home. Getting out of a nursing home first let your Counselor of Community Services know that you are ready to move out & include your social worker at the nursing home.To get out of a nursing home first you have to have a Dr's order, then have a place to go, such as an apartment. Then plan a discharge date. I rented an apartment, turned on utilities then moved into my apt. The social worker set up my necessary equipment which was a hospital bed & a hoyer lift. My daughter-in-law helped me move which was a TV & stand, plus clothes & hygenic needs. I had a computer & desk also. Little by little I started getting pieces of furniture, I call it Early Poverty!
