Is anyone using Detrol or Sanctura XR or Myrbetriq or the Transdermal Patch (Oxytrol) for bladder spasms?
I am 37 years post and have always used Ditropan [Oxybutynin both regular and extended release forms) but earlier this year I was hurt badly (very very badly) by a nurse who stretched my urethra out by blowing the balloon in my urethra. Ever since I have been leaking around my Foley catheter terribly and am now to the point where it (the urine) is burning my skin and it is not letting up. I have been working closely with my urologist (the same urologist I have had since 2006 and has been in my bladder to remove stones 3 times and has been very familiar with my urethra and bladder) we have not been able to find a solution. I am currently on the highest dose of Oxybutynin extended release (brand name Ditropan) and semi-recently tried Vesicare which did not help. My urologist wants me to go to the University of Arizona's urologist for more options because it is now out of control and she is not comfortable trying Botox (when at first she said she would if Vesicare didn't work). Anyway, there is not an appointment available with the University's urologist until November 3 and I can't deal with this leaking which is burning my skin and whereby I can't even sit up because of the leaking and it jeopardizing my skin even more. We are currently, of course, keeping me as trying as possible and treating the skin breakdown with applying Medihoney for Silvasorb and covering it with a proper sized Mepilex border which is the best covering for me since other coverings like Duoderm, etc. do not work at all. Until I can get to this other urologist... I was wondering if any of you have tried [with success] the bladder spasm medications mentioned above? My situation is a bit different now since my urethra has been stretched so very badly and it is now loose as a goose but the leaking is also caused by spasms. I was fine before this happened. In fact, my urologist who has been in my bladder before has always told me that my bladder and urethra (after 33 years of having an indwelling Foley) looks like a bladder and urethra that has never had an indwelling catheter! Until now. Please don't respond to the nurse hurting me (am taking care of that) ... I am just very interested right now in trying to get the leaking under control and if any of the above bladder spasm medications might be able to help... I need to try them. My urologist is familiar with neurogenic bladders but is just frustrated with what is going on with me. If you can get back to me ASAP... please do! ~Lori C 4/5 complete Quad, 37 years post -- "Petting, scratching and cuddling a dog could be soothing to the mind and heart and deep meditation and almost as good for the soul as prayer." ~Dean Koontz
