I don't know if others have remarked on this or not, but if you are
just getting into computing and don't mind having equipment that is ten
years old, then this is indeed the era of the free or near-free
computer. If a person is the least bit attentive to the social
environment around him/her, it is becoming almost a lead pipe cinch to
intercept old Macintosh computers as they sail by on their way to the
dumpster. I for one am enjoying the trend, although I admit to
salivating mightily when I read about the high-end iMacs and G4's. I
enjoyed this post, Tim, with its sense of a place for everything and
everything in its place. My own room is a kind of tangled everglades of
everything including six computers (four of which were cast offs.)
