A well-educated hypothesis, but probably incorrect. Power problems with
the 63x Macs are usually due to PRAM battery problems; if you wish, you can
use three AA batteries in series to replace the old one. Make sure you
save the wiring harness from the old one as you'll need it to connect the
new setup.
Check the PRAM battery first and if it's not putting out about 4.2V or so,
get a new one and see if that fixes the problem. Details on this battery
are in the FAQ.
