To re-iterate a point I have made before but need to make again for clarity, I recommend OS 7.6.1 for use on all 68040 powered machines (LC or straight) because it is the definitive version of OS 7 and runs very satisfactorily on all 040,s even the 25MHz machines like my LC475 (which is a identical to a Q605). 7.5 is generally a rocky OS, I didn't think it was until I used 7.5.5 a while on my LC475 and it it crashed a *lot* when it was doing hard work. I also had a few network problems with that OS version too.
Terry, as an OT not for this list I'd drop that LCIII back to 7.1, or if you insist on using a late OS 7 7.5.3 is not a good one IMHO, 7.5.5 also crashes a bit on my LC so I bought 7.6 and updated it to 7.6.1 using the free updater. 7.1 can use OT 1.1.2 as long as you install 1.1.1 first and, apart from a few missing features, is a fine OS for 030s. If you want you can lift CPs and extensions from 7.5, some work, some partly work and some don't work at all but I'll leave that for you to tool around with. -- Mark Benson Vintage Macs List Nanny aka silicon_valley_pirate_uk (Yahoo!
