I thought it would plug into a slot, but instead it seems to be some sort of "in-socket" upgrade. Can anyone give me advice how to install this thing?
Also, will it need special software? >> There are three possible cards. All utilize the same set of ROMS. One is the original 66 MHz card from Apple. The others are from Daystar, and could be either 66 MHz or 100 MHz (two different cards). These cards plug into the 040 PDS slot of the Q950 (or a Q650, etcetera). The required software is in the form of a control panel. It is necessary to launch the control panel, turn PPC mode ON, then power OFF the machine. When the machine is again powered ON, it will come up in PPC mode. To revert to 040 mode, it is necessary to launch the control panel, turn PPC mode OFF, then power OFF the machine. When the machine is again powered ON, it will come up in 040 mode. The Apple 66 MHz card may easily be overclocked to 80 MHz by substitution of an 80 MHz oscillator for the 66.6667 MHz oscillator in the Q950. A "times two" multiplier is always used, and may not be selected. The Daystar cards cannot be overclocked. Leave your 040 running at 25 MHz (Q900) or 33 MHz (Q950). A "times four" multiplier (Q900) or "times three" multiplier (Q950) must be selected. Selection of "times four" in a Q950 will cause the 601 chip to overheat (and probably self-destruct) within a few minutes. -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
