I've been looking at semi-vintage software being sold by computer
discounters and on eBay, but it's hard to get a straight answer as to
what the processor requirements are. While that's useful as an
intelligence test ("What's the minimum processor and memory required for
this?" "OS 8 point something, I think." "Umm, thank you, that tells me
you have no idea what you're talking about, and that I should look
elsewhere."), I'd like actual answers as to what is and isn't
compatible. I've got a Performa 575 (OS 8.1 or 7.6.1, depending on which
drive I boot from, 33/66 MHz 68LC040, 36 MB RAM, but I'm planning to try
to up it to 68MB, if I can find a RAM dealer who knows the meaning of
"Not Double Banked.")

What are the latest 68K versions for:
Quark XPress?
Pagemaker?
Photoshop?
Illustrator?
Freehand? (Did that get swallowed up by Illustrator?)
Claris/AppleWorks?
Toast? (4.1.2??)
Open Transport? (I had to reinstall to the 8.1 system off my 8.0 CD, and
rather than searching for the 8.1 updater again, I was wondering if I
should use an even later version?)

Most of the software company's web sites are no help, as if they're
trying to deny that any software before the latest version actually
existed. (Oh, by the way, does anyone know where I could find the
SuperPaint 3.5->3.5.1 updater that I've heard existed? Adobe, who bought
Aldus, has removed every single reference to SuperPaint from their site,
as far as I can tell. Grr.)

I understand that the last 68K versions of these are probably going to
be disk, RAM and processor hogs, so I'd be better off with older
versions, but I just want to know where the cutoff actually is.

Thanks.
