Your degree of experience in purchasing on E-bay is a factor. The price will
often jump significantly on such newer machines in the last two or three
seconds, and to win such an auction without overpaying (by getting into a
bidding war when one should have waited for another opportunity) takes some
experience. Remember that you need operating systems, etc., and that what
you see on E-bay is not exactly like going to a store and buying a known
quantity.

However once becoming knowledgable, auctions like that can be a good source
of inexpensive equipment, and is worth considering. In my opinion it would
depend on your objectives, since the results as well as the costs will be
quite different.

I bought several machines on e-bay, and the pricing made them quite
effiective for my unique needs for some old equipment. However the shipping
costs in my case made them more expensive than I could have picked up
equivalent machines at loca exchange markets -- If I had wanted to take the
time to look for a bargain. Once again this depends on your objectives
including how you value your time as compared to a good bargain.
