Hi, I can chime in here, having just finished loading NetBSD on my Quadra 605 with full 68040 CPU. Currently, NetBSD will run X in color only if your machine has a nubus video card. I'm not sure if someone is working on the color X-server for onboard video or not. Unfortunately, my Quadra 605 has onboard video and a networking card in the one nubus slot. I can verify that monochrome X runs very quickly on my machine. I'm thinking about trying Debian just to get X in color.
