PS do you think it should work even with a dead pram battery or should I swap it for a good one just to be sure (that case design is a bear, you have to remove the logic board just to swap a battery)?
It will probably _not_ work with a dead pram battery. On some Q800/840s you can actually get to the battery without removing the board, I've had a couple where it was in the bottom and accessible after removing any nubus cards that might cover it up.
