Ah, I think maybe I've been caught out by git's "loose" behaviour on
matching refspecs to their full refspec.
Try it now. I need to push a fully qualified refspec (i.e.
X:refs/heads/volatile/etc) to it to make a normal head - otherwise it is
indeed hidden, it seems (but not tested exhaustively).
