Hi,

Trying to remember the status of this, as it would be good to lower these defaults significantly.

Cumulus have posted patches on this a few times before, I think to set to 0 for iBGP and eBGP, but IIRC Martin found issues?

If 0 is too low (and it risks a large increase in BGP announcements as BGP converges; other BGP implementations that do not have an MRAI have had users have issues with being shut off by peers because of massive amounts of BGP traffic because of this; see also draft-jakma-mrai-02 for an overview of the literature on MRAI), could we perhaps still reduce the defaults to something in between?

E.g., 5s and 1s for eBGP and iBGP? Or 2s and 1s? Or 1s and 0s? I could even see a case for allowing them to be millisecond based. The eBGP one anyway.

Whatever else, the current values of 30s and 5s are far too high, surely?

Also, the BGP_DEFAULT_CONNECT_RETRY default of 10s is probably a bit too high. Somewhere in the 1s to 3s range might be better?

regards,
