Before throwing out a head due to a cross threaded plug, it is worth
considering two options:

1. Carefully recut the thread with a well greased tap with along lead on it in
situe OR Cut the thread back from the combustion side with the head removed.
Many Car Spares shops sell taps specifically for this purpose
2. Have the head professionally helicoiled (thread insert for those who are not
familiar with this technique)

Both options are cheaper than a new head (but maybe not as cheap as a scrap
engine).

Subject: [Quantum Owners] 1800 ZVH Turbo?

The FRST EFi CVH looks like it's short life in my 2+2 will be coming to an
end soon. It's going to need a new head courtesy of a cross threaded plug, and
it's developed a bottom end noise I'm not happy about. Looks like it's easier
to swap than repair.

Trawling the breakers and forums for replacements has turned up a few CVH's
of varying condition, but more Zetec and ZVH than anything.

That got me thinking - I'd quite like to keep the car turbo'd with the T25 as
not only is that fairly new, there's a brand new rad, intercooler and exhaust
just gone on, and have already sourced a decent replacement FRST head. To top
that, I dont like the sound of chopping up the spaceframe.

I'm not in search of massive power, so I'm also looking at 1.8 Zetec blocks.
Assuming appropriate ZVH turbo conversion on the pistons and rods, together
with oilways blocked off and an appropriate flywheel, would I have any space
problems or issues with the mounting?

And could I re-use my OFAC loom and ECU?

I've done some reading up, but everything points me towards modifications
needed on the 2.0/2.1 and I'm not sure how relevent that would be to me if I
just want the 1.8 block with a turbo CVH head

  Thanks in advance

  Andy
