And I'd go the other way and say you can do it 3rd party for £500-£750'ish
if you shop wisely and are happy to go for a 1600 CVH with used parts.

Admittedly it's not the last word in engine refinement or torque, especially
if you've driven more modern cars but to me, that’s the easiest way to get
more power to the car without excess modification (of the subframe mainly,
but the fuelling too)

£50 1.6 CVH
£30 engine mounts
£20 5 speed gearbox
£50 Brakes
£100 Suspension if you want to
£30 carb
£50 exhaust

And the rest on labour.

As far as I'm aware, the driveshafts will be fine. There are XR2 Zetec
conversions running on original 1.1 Fiesta d/s with little to no problem at
all. The garage who did the engine swap on my Saloon charged a couple of
hundred quid labour, it's a 2 day max job to drive in/drive out for a
garage. They're in Notts, so probably a bit far but they weren’t specialists
other than independent mechanics with a good reputation

Check out the For Sale section of the XRTwo.com forum for bits and pieces to
build up. You need to register to view, and I'll warn you in advance that
place can be a bit...blunt at times.

If you want the Rolls Royce (or should that be Ghia) service, then I agree
you'll pay for the privilege. Have a look at Specialised Engines in Essex
and budget upwards of £1.5k. You will be wheelspinning all the way home
again though :)

Subject: [Quantum Owners] Re: engine conversion

Hello Martin and welcome,

I used to live in Cookham and recall there being a few kit car / car
modifyers within a reasonable drive away, one I think around Uxbridge.
However that's a while ago now and I cannot remember any names, however they
did used to advertise their services in the kit car magazines.

Before I was shown by another Quantum member how to DIY I was looking for
this kind of service but found it quite tricky to find places willing to
undertake such a big job. Yours considering your starting point is perhaps
going to be a bigger job as you'll be wanting to update the braking systems
as well. You are probably looking in the realms several thousand pounds I'd
think.

One option is speaking to Quantum who were willing to supply and fit a zetec
engine for around £3000 I recall.

Matthew
