I hope to MOT the 2+2 soon just a little prob with the lack of a
speedo cable, cannot find a part number for one, also the amp on the
stereo was even worse than i imagined, the wires were a real rats nest
and tracing the speaker wires moved something and shorted the live/
earth on the amp and fizz crackle ....dead amp. There were three live
wires loose in the area the amp lived none terminated, and all with
bare wires, how it worked in the first place amazes me.

All of the electrics on the car now work as they should, the carb
still wants changing as it is "not right" but it will do, the brakes
need bleeding and a quick look reveals a broken bleed nipple on the O/
S/F brake calliper, i have spare bleed nipples if it comes out I'll
bleed them, if not I will have to get a calliper. After that it's a
final check and MOT. (the N/S/f wheel bearing is very noisy so if it's
not loose on the drive shaft nut (you would not believe how many
things i find loose on this car) a new bearing as well)

The Dutton has been great fun this year having been to France, Germany
and Holland on separate holidays, while it is now a fairly well sorted
car, my having now corrected most of the horrors inflicted by previous
owners. However it's not right and a geometry check shows the front
suspension to be way out, both castor and camber are different side to
side, giving the car a nervous feel at speed. This is not uncommon on
Duttons of this age as the factory were overwhelmed with orders (they
sold 1000's from the late 70's on) and they apparently didn't use a
jig to build the chassis's. that said, they can be made quite good if
a competent person builds it. I am to change the triumph front end for
a ford front end and at the same time correct the castor and make
adjustable the camber. Also new engine mounts, as the Anglia mounts
are not suited to the 2.0 Pinto it has under the bonnet, it will get
mk 2 Escort engine mounts.
