IVA is looming and after some personal delays over the last week I only have a few days to complete car for IVA. I am having trouble getting the car to run decently: car seems to start okay but does not tick over very smoothly. - timing is about 14 degrees with a fast road cam fitted, -carbs are reasonably well balanced -minor leak on manifold/ carbs seems to be resolved now, but I cannot get the car to tick over smoothly and there is spitting back through the carbs as well as at the exhaust.
Can anyone provide some advice on setting up better? I have some information from website talking about how to set them up, but does not seem to help/ work. Simple quetion initially though: it recommends opening idle jets 2.5 turns initially- am I correct in thinking that this is 2.5 full 360 degree turns? Spark plugs are showing black and wet when removed, so I thought that this was rich mixture not lean that spittign back implies. Also seems to be blowing a bit smoky when accelerating and I am not sure if this is worn valves or poor combustion. Any help or advise appreciated.
