I fitted a Unipart 88 degree thermostat last night (equiv to a Quinton 
Hazell QTH105) and the engine warms up quicker, and the gauge reads well 
into the normal range on the motorway, so the old thermostat was definitely 
stuck open.  I think the car was running on the cold map, so economy should 
improve, and there had been a slight hesitation at 1800 rpm which seems to 
have gone away, so it's a good result....
