got bored (quite easy during the twilight hours between nappy's and feeds)
so i thought id tart up my boot hinge covers, they had faded and were
scuffed + i didn't like the heavy grained effect finish, more modern car
trends tend to shift towards smooth gloss black plastic trims both inside
and out, so i thought id have a go since it would cost me nothing but a few
hours work.

got out my selection of papers

started off using 220 grit wet and dry

then went through 320 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 1000 - 1500 - 2000 - 2500 wet
and dry

then on to micro mesh abrasive cloth, this stuff is amazing, you really
need to try it, soft backing takes to all contours and ensures even
pressure all over, great for polishing gel coat too though originally made
for polishing polycarbonate aircraft canopies,

so started with 2500 then 3200 (this is what that looks like)

then 3400 - 4000 - 6000 and finally 12000, the picture below shows the
difference between that last 2 grades

8-) finished, remember this has all been done using abrasive paper and
clothes, no machines or liquid at all

shiny 8-)

only the door handles and mirrors to do now, and now that the plastic is
glass smooth i can get them chrome plated now .......
