Is the clock in the instrument cluster like this ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FIESTA-MK2-DASHBOARD-INTERIOR-CLOCKS-SPEEDO-/252206400606

If so then the problem is because there are different wiring looms for the XR2 and Ghia compared to the lower spec cars. The cluster with the rev counter has nothing that needs continuous power so it won't be there on the loom.
Sounds like the same pin was used for ignition power on the XR2.

If it is that sort then i'll have a look at the wiring diagrams and tell you what to connect where.
Does everything else in the cluster work ok ?

Hello there - I'm stuck, again (sorry!)

I've got an xr2 clocks cluster with a rev counter that's dead as a fish, so
I've fitted an aftermarket rev counter and bought a standard mk2 dashboard.
Everything seems to have gone fine except the Dashboard clock - it works fine
when the engine is on, but (as I feared may be the case) stops when you turn
off the engine. I'd be stunned if anyone knew anything - but does anyone have
any ideas? Do I need to run a dedicated feed off the battery? I was hoping
there'd be something that n the loom to help me out. On the bright side the car
interior is now everywhere and unattractive to thieves...
