Hi, This is interesting. I saw a blender/maya animation tutorial (which I can no longer find) that used simple IPO / curve based offsets to simulate secondary motion on a stack of cubes. I am sure this principle could be implemented using the 'timelines patch' in leopard. Or editable curves in the interpolator patch in tiger.

I attach a rough example (that should be tiger friendly - except the new mouse patch and the menu publishing splitter) that 'manually' tweaks the values using different interpolator values for x position and z rotations. I'm sure using an iterator and mathematically produced fall-off / decay (a math expression on leopard) could be used to 'automate' this effect and give precise control over 'exaggeration' etc.

The demo files listed below contain principles I would study further:

Examples/Quartz Composer/Compositions/Conceptual/Queue - Mouse Trails.qtz Examples/Quartz Composer/Compositions/Conceptual/Smooth - Mouse Position.qtz
Examples/Quartz Composer/Compositions/Conceptual/Smooth - Rotation.qtz
Examples/Quartz Composer/Compositions/Interactive/Caterpillar.qtz

Attachment: manual_cube_offset.qtz
Description: application/quartzcomposer

I hope this helps.

Kind regards, Ian

Hello everyone.

Is it possible to offset motion taken from another object? For example, imagine you want a stack of cubes on top of each other. You want the bottom one to move, causing the stack to move also, but you want the motion offset so it looks more like secondary motion. Is this possible, some sort of of Time Offset or using the Math node?

Also, is it possible to turn lines on and off (using Tiger, not Leopard)? I want to objects to be connected by a line only when both are enabled. Is this possible also?

Regards.

Andrew.

p.s. If I don't come back here before the big day, I want to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a prosperous new year. Take care all.
