I just gave comparing compositions a shot (didn't even know it was there until now). Everything worked fine except for when I clicked anywhere within the rendered composition views, at which point _graphEditor raised an exception.
ouch -- my work machine does this (it opens the window, which my personal machine does not). Both of these are reported at rdar://6247029 (for posterity).
