it would be great if a macro could be "ghosted" so if i make a change in one instance of the macro all otherinstances of the same macro gets auto-updated. is there any way to achieve this in quartz composer today?
In a limited sort of way, you're looking for Virtual Patches. You save a composition to ~/Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Patches, and it becomes a virtual patch that you can use multiple times. If you change the underlying virtual patch, it gets changed everywhere. This might require a QC Restart though, which might be a deal breaker. Perhaps we can make a plugin that forces it to reload virtual patches on the fly.... no idea :)
