Thanks Alessandro + Dustin
It seems I have a bit of a dilema here.. ideally I want full tablet
support, for all makes + models, but it seems that'll involve writing
a ton of plugins and a load of extra work. I'd thought I could use the
HID input, which would have made it pretty easy, but guess not.
Perhaps though as Dustin says, the extra controls aren't really
necessary. My app will have everything accessible from a few
convenient + large buttons, plus there will be keyboard shortcuts, so
I think I can get away with fairly limited tablet support for now. I
know a few artists using tablets, I'll get their opinions too. If
anyone else on the list does some digital painting, please pass on
your opinions :D

that should help,
honestly chris, im not sure how important the eraser is. i use a
tablet for digital painting (a mouse feels strange after tablet) i
rarely ever flip over the pen to erase something. i like to do
erasing with the tip of the pen because it is smaller than the end
of the pen . or by selecting and using the delete key not the actual
eraser. some programs the eraser acts just like the tip for example
quartz composer. other programs use the eraser as it should and let
you do things like smudge etc with it. still i never use it. when
you flip the pen over, the buttons are not next to your fingers so
selecting an eraser type or adding a brush to the eraser can't be
done without flipping the pen over clicking the right or middle
button selecting your erase option then flipping the pen back over
just to erase is a waste of time. so if you are going to add an
eraser option maybe make it a fast clear all, or do something unique
to your app that the other two buttons can not do. maybe pull up a
color picker or something. just a thought. rember not everyone has
the intuos 3 some may have cte or bamboo etc... which have different
buttons on the tablet itself or none at all. i would not choose to
negate the extra buttons they just won't be available for some users.
i made a little drawing app for the mouse, tablet, a multi touch DI,
and iPhone/iPod. it dosent do much but draw on the screen and leave
some cool color trails. just a novelty not really anything anyone
would want to use for anything but maybe interactive art. it makes
music as well. i would be interested in seeing your drawing program.
i like digital painting.

You should file a feature request, but in the meantime you may want

Hello, me again, I'm back with yet more problems :D
I'm trying to configure my composition to work well with a tablet (to
be precise, a wacom intuos 3 with the latest drivers installed). Basic
tablet input using the tablet patch works fine, and pressure control
works fine, but how do I access the 'extra' stuff on the tablet like
the eraser, additional buttons etc. It's a painting application I'm
building, so erase + the other controls are pretty important.
I can set the eraser to map to a mouse button or key in the intuos
prefs, but that will be a bit of an issue - it should 'just work'
ideally. The eraser doesn't seem to map to any of the 'tablet input'
outputs in QC, and if I select the tablet as a HID device I can see
all the main controls (what looks like x/y/pressure controls, the
pressure strip, the 3 buttons on the pen and a lot more which I guess
are the buttons on the tablet) but I don't get any output from any of
them. I've tried exclusive mode, it didn't seem to make any
difference.
Anyone got this working, or any suggestions on where to start?
Chris
