Thanks Alex, that looks very interesting, what plugins do I need to
install for it to run?

Have a look at this post on my blog:

It doesn't create sinewaves, as such, but it's a 3D-waveform-
visualiser-type-thing, and demonstrates what Christopher was talking
about.
It could be relatively easily modified to produce non-audio-reactive
sine waves by tweaking the code in the JavaScript patch at the top
level of the composition.

Thanks for clearing that up Chris, I've been using a modified bit
of code as an "image mixer" on a few compositions I've been working
on, so I'm kind of getting to grips with it in some sense....
As for specific problems, the one I've strugaling a bit with at the
moment is the "Sine-wave" which I posted a few days ago....
I've kind of got the effect I want, with a careful bit of pruning
(take out some of the original functions, and less iterators) so
its running 25-fps... which is'nt great but a vast improvemt on
what it was...
I would just like to get a more efficient solution re your "You
could try generating the segments in javascript, and then driving a
GL Line Structure patch from our GLTools plugin -- that'll remove
the need for massive numbers of iterators." you posted.... But I
wouldn't haver a clue where to start in terms of code... (or how to
wire things up)
Thanks again MArk
hi, as a complete novice can anyone give me some advise on
learning Java / programing for use within Quartz?
QC uses Javascript (not Java -- completely different technology.
Searching for Java tutorials won't help you at all in QC :)
There are lots of example apps that use it that can help fill in
some details. Otherwise, it's mostly stock JS (sometimes called
EMCAScript), so googling for tutorials can help with the basics.
If you have a specific problem you'd like to solve, feel free to
post it on the list -- that tends to generate lots of input on how
to go about solving it. I find it's much easier to learn with
sample code and someone willing to talk about it :)
