Anyone know why the Random Generator patch always produces an image with a 1-pixel black border around the edge, after cropping? And, is there any way of stopping it doing this? Calling the CIRandomGenerator patch and cropping the result inside a CIFilter patch's JavaScript panel produces the same effect.
Try it in Software CoreImage mode -- if it's gone there, yell at ATI (it's driver-related). If it's not there, post a composition (I couldn't duplicate it from your description (randomgen -> crop -> sprite), but maybe I'm doing something wrong).
