Hi Glen, Very interesting you confirmed it is not a compatibility issue between MacPro 3.1 and the ATI 5870. Using SmalluxGPU( basically a software to benchmark OpenCL devices) the 5870 is recognized as a compliant device and perform very well in the raytracing tests. So it looks like, as Christopher said, it is a specific issue with Quartz Composer that requires additional CL features to validate the card as a potential device.
