Hi Charlie, this is sure enough not a solution, but could give you an idea what is possible with a core image filter: I added a gaussian blur to the text image (don't forget to crop it afterwards!) and created a core image filter that sets a threshold on the alpha channel to make all pixels fully visible. It is quick and dirty and maybe you can come up with a nicer looking result modifying the parameters or even the code of the core image filter.
