If you poke around the composition repository at kineme.net, you'll see that the user smokris created an example (without the plugin you refer to), that allows one to search a term on google and return pictures that fit that description and renders then in a column formation, using json, I believe. It might be worth looking at.
I believe it uses some JavaScript for formatting the json info, and maybe even just the stock rss patch to receive it.
