I wonder what problems you were having? I'd encourage you to give a look at this again.
I haven't had any app projects going in Xcode 4+ /10.8 that use this (mainly bc I only use 10.8 for web browsing), but I've used SL and 3.2.6 for app development quite a bit, and not had problems with deploying on 10.6~10.8, and they all do that one way or another.
