I guess is already in your list of backup tools to watch. But it might be 
easier 
to copy code/ideas from borg backup as is also in python. I have good 
experiences with the deduplication and compression features of borg.

Thanks for the project, the backups in qubes are one of the mayor pains for me 
right now. I'm happy to see some efforts in the direction of improving them.
