The LinuxPPS patches are pretty good. I haven't used the git repositories yet, so I'm still using the 2.6.17 patch. I compiled a pristine kernel in FC5 after I patched it with the PPS patch. I did the same thing with Debian Etch. I used the official ntp sources, not the distro packages, as the prepacked ntp doesn't yet support NMEA.
