That's not the case at all.

Manycast clients use multicast server discovery messages to locate
nearby servers and then establish unicast associations with those
servers.

Multicast clients listen for multicast server messages, temporarily
establish unicast associations with the server(s) for the purpose of
calculating network delay, and then go back to listening.
