Hi JD Here's the reason:
http://biz.yahoo.com/e/060316/aap10-k.html This company has moving quarters: Our fiscal year ends on the Saturday nearest December 31 of each year. Our first quarter consists of 16 weeks, and the other three quarters consist of 12 weeks, with the exception of the fourth quarter fiscal 2003 which consisted of 13 weeks due to our 53-week fiscal year in 2003. The end dates of the last quarter can be in either December, or January. The ttm calculation actually adds all the quarters by end date, assuming that an end dat of 12/05 would include anything from 1/05 to 12/05. It doesn't add the last 4 numbers, as many companies don't report 4 quarters a year, in particular adr's. They may report 1 or 2 times a year. I should be able to change the calculation to account for this anomaly. For the October, 2002 quarter, Reuters does not have an entry for that quarter. They have an special period that contains 40 weeks instead of 12 weeks, but no regular period that contains 12 weeks. I ignore the special periods, as they are not comparable to regular periods, so I may not be able to do anything about that one. If one views symbol "AAP" fundamentals, take note of TTM EPS at 2.42 and TTM Sales per Share at 47.27. However, when adding up the last 4 quarters for EPS and Sales, I get different numbers (2.13 and 39.47 respectively which is similar to numbers reported by Yahoo and Reuters). I noticed though that adding last 5 quarters of data does yield the values that QP is reporting for this symbol. I don't notice this problem on all symbols though?! Last note, it appears that AAP is missing Fall 2002 quarterly data? Is this just because the company didn't report? Why would that happen? Thanks for any info on this..
