Slightly off-topic, I know, but here's another way to spot virus attachments
that I find works quite well:
Normally, Windows Explorer is set to hide extensions of known file types. I
think programs like Outlook share the same setting.
So, by default, your attachment will be just called "postcard", or maybe
"postcard.doc". Sounds harmless enough. But here's the trick:
If you unselect the option in the Explorer settings to hide extensions for
known file types, you'll see that the attachment is really called
"postcard.exe" or "postcard.doc.exe" or something like that.
Exe files, as we know, are executable programs, not documents.
Chances are that most double extension files ending with .exe, .com, .pif etc
are viruses.
