Hi,
I'd just like to pick up on a couple of things on this thread:
1. Realtime feedback of MIDI program change.
Andre is quite correct, the feature to send MIDI in dialogs has been around for years. It allows you to immediately hear the effect of changing the settings in the Track Properties (or Change Properties) dialog and various other dialogs.
Therefore, by default, if you select a program, bank, volume, pan, reverb or chorus from the Track Properties dialog, you should be able to hear the change right there in the dialog.
However, there is one caveat: you must have the channel for the track set to something other than 0. If you have the channel not set, QWS will not know what channel to use for sending the MIDI data and so cannot.
So, what I do quite often when starting out from a blank song is create a new track, open the Track Properties, set the channel and OK it, then go back in again to set the rest of the options.
When you change programs in the Properties dialogs, you can either have the track playing or you can continue to play your keyboard; either should work.
2. Instrument lists.
I'd just like to clarify: if you select an instrument list for a MIDI port, the Program and Bank controls are not replaced by the instrument list. Rather, the instrument list is displayed in addition to the program and bank controls.
Hope all this helps.
James.
