This may be a dumb question, but have you put the Motif into song or
pattern mode? It is not multi-tembral in voice mode.

Hmm, strange. Have you a channel on the first track too? Having no
channel on a track can do some weird things sometimes. Is the new
track highlighted? Have you tried the on-screen keyboard too?
