I've no idea how fast or slow hard synths are, but I had a similar problem 
with the microsoft synth. In my case I ended up using VSTHost and SynthFont 
with ASIO to get the lag down to a few ms. You might already have done this, 
but making sure you're not using the MS soft synth is also an idea.
