Hi,
What you are specifically asking for is more dependant on hardware, like
soundcard, microphone, the microphone setup, cables, and whatever else you
would be recording from. As long as the program you are using can record in
16 bit, 44.1KHZ, which any recording program you will ever find can do,
there isn't going to be any difference in quality between programs. What is
different between programs is what they allow you to do with those
recordings.
If you're looking for something to just record, I highly recommend Gold
wave. It's not free, I believe 45 dollars, and it'll keep you covered for
pretty much anything the average user would want to do, and it even has
things which are nice for higher end projects. It isn't going to be Sonar,
but if all you need to do is recording and editing, that's all you'll need.
Otherwise, you can try Audacity. It's not as screen reader friendly, but it
is more like Sonar, except that it is free so the pros might frown on you
for using it. But, if it works for you, who cares what they think?
A professional sollution is Reaper, but I haven't had much success with it,
but many others have, who are probably more knowledgeable than I am.
For now, I use a combination of Gold Wave and vst plug-ins with Audacity and
other programs. But, that's going way too far from what you were asking...
Feel free to e-mail me offlist if you have questions.

Subject: QWS List off topic, audio recording
Hi all,
Sorry for the off topic message, I just thought this would be the best
place for me to post it.
Does anyone know of a good piece of software I can use with a windows
computer to record audio? Something with really high quality audio
recording like logic, but something that works with windows and doesn't
require the use of the mouse and works with JAWS screenreader. I tried
Sonar but found it had lots of herdles and difficulties.
Thanks,
Ali
