Midi allows you to send a reverb message to specify how much reverb you want. About every keyboard supports it, and many software synths do as well. But, some don't, and loading up a vst or two, just to ad reverb and maybe chorus, and adjusting it for each channel, would be tedious. I've never actually done it that way.
