Hi Leonard

Thanks so much for your reply.

I normally record every instrument separately, but I have
some songs where I want to use some of the pre-recorded parts
of the styles, so the idea was to record the piece on one track,
use the split function to split the one track into several, and throw
away the unwanted ones, just keeping the one or two parts of the style
which I was interested in.

The thing is that on this keyboard I cannot mute certain parts of the style,
so I have to either record all and get rid of some parts myself,
or i have to record my own version of the style, putting in
each part separately.

I was hoping to save time by recording the entire style at once and then
using the split function in qws to keep the parts I am interested in,
but seems that shortcut is not going to work for me.

So here's to doing it right, following the long route!

Subject: Re: QWS List Question on midi channel 0 - recording keyboard style which has multiple parts

Hello David,

First of all, i have to discourage the usage of styles for recording in qws. When i had a Yamaha DGX-205 (quite the same as those psr series), it only gave me problems. I was able to record the styles, but since my keyboard did not send any midi information such as which instrument was on which channel, i had to split the style track and set every parameter manually. Furthermore, when i changed styles on the yamaha, it only sent the parameters of the tracks which got new instruments, and did not send information of tracks which parameters stayed the same. Another thing is, when using styles, you have to play exactly on the beat. Every mistake you make with that is very hard to solve in my opinion.

James Bowden posted a set of audio tutorials on his website, where he uses the concept of recording every track separately (bass, drums, flute, piano). That's also the way far the most of us prefer.

Hope this helps you a bit out.
