Hi James,
I don't own an XS myself but the XS and XF are practically identical in
settings so I can tell you that yes, song/pattern modes bring you into
multitimbral mode. Though I've heard tell that the Motif sometimes doesn't
like external local off and on messages (at least it doesn't from Sonar all
the time) so here's what I do to fix that.
In song mode, find a blank song, otherwise the mix settings you have for the
already recorded sequence will be present in the audio the Motif produces
and often times one doesn't want that.
Once there, press the SeqSetup button.
Press F3 to get to the quick seq setup templates.
Choose template three with the dial or inc/dec and press enter. This will
automatically make the necessary settings for you to be able to record midi
data to the computer.
Note that if you wish to record the midi data of any of the arps, you need
to choose a different setup and then go back to template three. You'll have
to look at the manual to see which template you need for arps as I don't
remember. Otherwise you should be set to go. Be sure and switch things
back to template one if you want to go back to onboard sequencing as one of
the included settings of template three is to turn local off and being stuck
without local is rather bad for onboard sequencing... LOL
You can apparently also do this thing through the utility mode but for me
the above strategy works best.
HTH.
Most Sincerely,
Bobbi

Subject: QWS List Possibly slightly OT: Motif XS and Multy Timbral Mode?
Hi there folks. Can anyone confirm how to get the Motif XS into multy
timbral mode? I'm gonna be trying it out later today, and I have been
given advice to push the song button. Just wasn't sure if anyone here
might have had the experience.
Cheers,
James
