Thanks James and others for your replies.
Wondered whether transmission speeds with usb was faster or slower than
midi and/or whether there would be bottle necks with amounts
of data being transmitted, especially if one has busy pieces like your
typical classic music orchestration.

keyboard
Hi,
In terms of what data can be transmitted and received: USB and
dedicated MIDI sockets will bee exactly the same.
The possible advantage of using USB is the data transmission rate may be
faster.
The possible advantage of using MIDI sockets is that you don't need a
computer - e.g. you can connect a keyboard directly to a module for
live performance. If using USB, you'd probably need a computer
between them.
Hope this helps.
James.

Well I am not a midi specialist, but from what I understand, both methods
are just connections, and all the resources depend on the instrument you
have and the midi sequencer you use. After all, both methods can send midi
data back and forth and allow the use of soundfonts via external
programs...
But we can wait for a more accurate responce from the people who deal with
midi for a long time...
Good luck,
André.

Subject: QWS List Question about midi: usb vs midi connection on
keyboard
Hi
I used to link my keyboard to the pc using the midi in-out ports.
I now have a connection to the pc using a usb port on my keyboard.
Is there any difference between using midi in-out ports on a keyboard vs
using a usb out on the keyboard.
Is there any functionality or performance capability loss?
Thanks
David
