Hi Paul, First I’d like to say that this is very kind of you, and your help will be highly apreciated. Well actually the matter is that a friend of mine plus myself will develop a very outstanding tool for controlling all kind of midi based gear. For that matter we need some specifics, so that the stuff we send out to the various units at least conforms to the standard. And we also need a little deeper understanding of it all. Yes you got it right. So as menchened before. We’ll be very happy for the docs you might find.
To name my most current gear I have a Roland Integra-7, a Yamaha Tyros4, a light mixer, and a Dynacord power mate 1000 III. Roland does a quite good job on documentation I think. At least I have 5 different documents just for the Integra-7. The midi standard, or standards, I should say, haven’t really been changed for a long time so finding documentation on those shouldn’t be too big of a deal, it’s late here tonight but tomorrow I’ll take a look and see what i can find, although I’ll only be doing what you would probably, googling various strings. i will, however, be able to verify whether the documents are worth a read because I’ll give them a quick look. I’ve been working with midi in some form or another since the very very early midi days, don’t really want to date myself, oops, guess I just did. however SysEx, there, that makes eloquence pronounce it as close as it can to how it is pronounced is a different kettle of fish altogether. it’s an abbreviation for system exclusive and is just that, exclusive too each independent system. The only place for reliable data about these strings is in the manual of your midi device I’m afraid and often said documentation is as clear as mud and some experimentation is required to make things work the way you want them to. Perhaps we can narrow things down a bit. Am i correct in the below. you want: 1. a basic description of midi principles such as controler message, program changes, bank numbers, least and most significant bits etc, and then system exclusive data how and why it works/ Could you let us know what equipment yu are using at the moment? We can start with the basics then move on to the specifics of your equipment. That will not only make it easier to point you in the right direction but also provide you with more reliable, accurate, and most importantly, easier information to work with. hth. Cheeers! Often you want to send more complex commands and those often only exists in the sysx auspices, and can be quite difficult to handle. I’m searching for some technical explanations about how all this stuff works. All about msb, lsb, rpn, and nrpn. An explanation about the intire midi regime with all it’s traps and definitions. Some detailed explanation of sysx strings, and so on and so forth. Please provide me with either some good book titles, or aprooved technical documents on the net, where I can studdy this further.
