You can do a lot of the work in making an instrument definition file using
Excel, and it gives you both a high level of control in what is in the file
and also helps with error checking. QWS doesn't like missing data and it'll
return an error on the file if something is missing, so you can see fast if
something's amiss in Excel, far faster than if you try to find it with a
text editor.
The slight modification that would make this even easier is if QWS accepted
tabs as well as commas for definition files. Then it'd involve far less
steps and delay and it'd make error checking far faster. But I don't know
what it would take to do this with the program, and James has limited time
to work on QWS these days.
